OUR SERVICES

Psychological evaluations

Evaluations for many purposes are available through Child First Therapy & Evaluations.  Please visit our other webpage, childfirstautism.com to learn more.  Evaluations are available for Autism and many more conditions.

ADHD therapy

Children/teens with ADHD see the world differently and can struggle with organization, timeliness, and self-regulation.  Therapy can help them learn to structure and organize their environments and time better so they can keep up with demands in school and at home.  While medication can help with some symptoms, therapy can further help by teaching self-organization and regulation, as well as social skills development.

Anxiety therapy

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorders and therapy is very effective in reducing symptoms.  Children learn to identify emotions, anxiety triggers, and then use this knowledge to learn how to use coping strategies.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

ASD represents a wide range of issues and functioning, and therapy can be helpful in many ways, from building skills to remediate deficits, to strengthening skills already present, and reducing challenging behaviors.  Self-help and social skills are often needed to improve resilience and independence.  Neurodiverse individuals often benefit from therapy to help them adjust to a sometimes socially confusing world and improve their communication and social skills.  We are trained in evidence-based therapies to address many issues those with ASD may face.

Behavioral Sleep Training

Sleep is essential for our health and wellbeing but can be elusive at times.  Behavioral sleep training goes beyond basic sleep hygiene and uses various strategies that are matched to the dysfunction of sleep.  People of all ages can struggle with sleep and therapy can make a significant change to improve your health.

Behavioral therapy to complement medical treatment for encopresis

Encopresis is when an individual loses control of their bowels, and there are many causes of this condition.  Medical treatment is required, and behavioral therapy can complement this treatment to provide better, longer-lasting results.  The body responds well to developing routine behavioral habits to speed the process of healing.

Depression therapy

Depression is very common in children and teens and responds well to therapy.  Children must learn to understand and label their emotions and to discover and use coping skills.

Discipline/compliance/difficult behavior

Children don’t come with manuals and some have behavior that is more challenging to navigate.  Our therapists are trained in evidence-based, compassionate therapies like Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to address difficult behavior.  Learn how to get along with your child and start enjoying each other’s company again.

Family transitions/divorce

Family transitions, including divorce and separation can be difficult for children and teens to navigate.  It is often helpful for children to have a neutral person, like a therapist, to speak to during challenging times.  Therapy can also help parents to get on the same page and help their children learn how to adjust to new living situations.

Self-esteem/body image issues

We live in an increasingly online, image-driven world, and unfortunately, this seems to be taking a toll on the mental health of children and teens.  Therapy can help your child navigate their ever-changing landscape and build self-esteem to be able to withstand life’s challenges.

Social Skills

The social world can be confusing and children and teens are often not taught valuable skills.  We are trained in the PEERS social skills program, a robust evidence-based curriculum to improve social skills for school-aged children and teens.  This program benefits clients with many different diagnoses and backgrounds, particularly for neurodiverse individuals.

Therapy for teenagers

Many teens experience emotional difficulties and often feel reluctant to reach out for help.  It is often easier for teens to speak with a therapist rather than their parents.  Our therapists can help your teen navigate their emotional needs and social landscape in an ever-changing world.  Services are confidential and families are always involved in treatment.

Trauma therapy

Sometimes life throws unique challenges your way and your child is left figuring out how to cope with the aftermath.  Natural disasters, interpersonal violence, and loss can test even the most resilient of children.  We use evidence-based therapies, such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help children and teens deal with trauma and its effects.
